Jackrabbits in the Outfield

Author: John Hindle

Dreams Do Come True

Jackrabbits in the Outfield is the title of John's award-winning book. He brings you along on a journey that takes an inside look at the phenomenal success of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Northern League of Professional Baseball. John was the general manager of the Goldeyes for the first eight years. During an era when minor league baseball teams were disappearing from the landscape throughout Canada, the Winnipeg Goldeyes were the exception, as attendance, corporate sponsorship, and community interest in the club grew dramatically. With the building of a gorgeous new stadium, CanWest Global Park, in 1999, the Goldeyes soared to new heights. John tells stories to illustrate how the Goldeyes became so successful. These stories illustrate his philosophies on teambuilding, customer service, sales, and tackling the big challenges.

John was also the general manager of the Canaries in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2004 which gave him a unique perspective of professional sports from both sides of the border. He tells stories about the players, fans, staff and other characters that made the Northern League a very special place. John shares his passion for the job. Personal insights and interesting anecdotes make this great reading for sports fans, anyone who is involved in sales, customer service or is part of a team and anyone who appreciates the rigors of a challenging job. One that John has described as his dream job.”

Jackrabbits in the Outfield won a 2007 Independent Publisher Book Award (IPPY Award) in the non-fiction book category in New York City on June 1st.

"Jackrabbits in the Outfield" has been found on the Winnipeg best seller list at McNally Robinson for four weeks since the book was released!

I really enjoyed your book! You have a great ability to bring the reader into the situation, and your honesty and passion for what you are doing really come through in the story. ...........................................................................................Tom Shillington, Ottawa

I recently read your book, Jack Rabbits in the Outfield, and felt compelled to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed seeing the game from a business perspective! What a great "read" but better still, it is priceless to have this era of history of Goldeyes’ baseball recorded for perpetuity! I found the chapters devoted to the "fun at the park" very entertaining as well as all the human interest stories. But the underlying theme that seemed to be coming through in much of the book was the people you met along the way and the lasting friendships you made. ..................................Glennis Scott

Hi John! I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your book. I found Jackrabbits in the Outfield an interesting read the whole way through. I thought you were fair in describing people but also candid enough to give me a sense of what they were about. That's a difficult thing to accomplish. Nice job. ............................................................................................................Mike Beauregard, CBC Television

As I read Jackrabbits in the Outfield, I was intrigued by many of the 'behind the scenes' stories. The book was easy to read and kept me entertained throughout. .....Guy Yerama, Manitoba Baseball Coach.

"Jackrabbits" left me smiling frequently and occasionally laughing out loud. But, it also told a great story about what it means to "love a job." Beyond that, the book provides many great anecdotes, when taken together, constitute a manual for how to run a company where teamwork is an essential ingredient for success. ............................................................................Warren Philp. Thunder Bay, ON

"The book is a must-read for fans of independent baseball and the Goldeyes. It's an honest and open book from Hindle's side of things. While history is open to interpretation, Hindle's viewpoint definitely qualifies as a legitimate and inside one." ................excerpt from October 26th, 2006 article in the Winnipeg Free Press written by Gary Lawless.

"The book was very interesting and we had a hard time putting it down till done. It was very well written and will be a treasured keepsake! ".........................Doug and Marlene Eisner, Swan River, MB

"Just wanted to let you know that I love the book. I picked it up yesterday and I was laughing out loud last night reading some of the stories." .............................................................................. Donna Tardi
